How do we do this?

I do believe this is a good question; What's our tactic, going in to this? Perhaps more specifically when(/if) combat starts.
Who will stand were? Who wants support spells, in my instance.

I'll stand as far away from anything dangerous as I can, while still being within range of my spells(25 ft.).

A brief rules point it might be worth bearing in mind:

You can use a melee weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage instead, but you take a -4 penalty on your attack roll.

Not that I'm encouraging metagaming per se, but I think you can all work out that this adventure isn't going to be "sit and watch the higher level NPC deal with everything". That's not a whole load of fun for anyone.

Nor is that what was being suggested.

My character's more built for ranged combat rather than melee (I might want to consider purchasing a shield at some point) I do have a short sword I can use if I'm needed in melee.

I am melee but I do have ba bit of rach sence you now long spear but i have no "real" ranged weapon...

Well, as suggested in the IC thread Mirana has said that she does have a shield and a sword so she can get close, also strongly suggesting to not try to put yourselves in needless danger (which I know, she probably does herself too) and she has warned that she plans on using Caltrops if it comes to a close-quarter situation with the bear.

I will be honest though, don't know why this is put in this thread instead of the IC one. Discuss it there first and then half OOC to clarify seems to make more sense to me.

Mirana is opted for Ranged ad well, but it doesn't matter. Worst comes to worst she has offered to be up close.

So what is the plan? Or more to the point can anyone see a good reason why I shouldn't take a shot at the bear?

I can't I mean easier loot fight is always nice...

Sorry, what's the initiative order?

Shoot the bear by all means, I plan on moving forward a little bit and me + Eric frontline together to distract and deal subdual damage to her as you guys lower her current HP and support.

To be honest I'm almost tempted to roll a D12 instead of a D20 for my next attack. Can hardly do worse.

Having said that this is better than the 1st time I played D&D with James. Where my experienced soldier managed to drop his sword on his 1st two attacks.

In a move that surprises no one, Eric misses. Although now he does it in a different thread. There is an uproar of laughter from the gathered hordes of observers, and you see some money change hands. Two Kobold cheerleaders prepare for the hilarity that will doubtless be Tim's action.
